Inquiry into Historical Institutional Abuse Bill

The OFMDFM committee was granted an extension for its scrutiny of the Inquiry into Historical Institutional Abuse Bill, on 17 September 2012.

The inquiry, which will be headed by retired High Court judge Sir Anthony Hart, will examine allegations of abuse at children's homes, care institutions and borstals between 1945 and 1995.

Deputy committee chairman Chris Lyttle of Alliance said witnesses had raised a number of concerns such as the start date of 1945 and how the rights of victims of non-institutional abuse would be met.
