Progress on Armagh road projects

Sinn Fein's Cathal Boylan called for the re-routing of a proposed road scheme in Armagh during the adjournment debate, on 24 April 2012.

Mr Boylan described the traffic congestion in Armagh City during peak hours as "absolutely atrocious" and welcomed the fact that two road schemes were planned to help ease the traffic jams, particularly the North and West Link.

The Armagh East road was due to be built through a residential area.

Mr Boylan called for this road to be re-routed away from the houses. His view was backed by other Newry and Armagh MLAs.

Regional Development Minister Danny Kennedy said his department was aware of the concerns voiced by MLAs and Armagh residents.

He said a decision would be made in due course about whether a public inquiry would be required.
