Marine Bill: First Stage

The first stage of the Marine Bill and the further consideration stage of the Budget Bill were both passed by the assembly, on 21 February 2012.

The Marine Bill contains provisions for marine planning and marine nature conservation within Northern Ireland's territorial waters.

The Budget Bill is intended to authorise the issue of money from the consolidated fund for the years ending 31 March 2012 and 2013.

It has received accelerated passage, meaning it has been granted a faster passage through the assembly.

A motion on an official statistics order, brought by Finance Minister Sammy Wilson also passed uncontested.

Mr Wilson explained that the order was part of a wider United Kingdom programme of work implementing the Statistics and Registration Service Act, 2007.

He said this established an independent UK statistics authority to promote and safeguard the production and publication of official statistics.
