Tabling the motion for support for rural businesses, the DUP's Adrian McQuillan appealed to the Executive to permit more advertising for businesses on public roads, on 27 September 2011.
Several MLAs, including Alliance's Trevor Lunn, reported problems faced by constituents by the enforcing of current rules which allow DRD to take down signs, and fine businesses for putting them up.
"What we are looking for here is consistency and rule that everyone can understand" he said.
The DUP's Jim Wells said problems encountered by business owners in South Down included a "world wide wait" instead of the access to the web.
