The DUP's Peter Weir led the tributes to young Northern Ireland golfer Rory McIlroy following his "prodigious victory" at the US Open championships, on 20 June 2011.
Mr Weir noted that the golfer "was not someone who was born with a silver spoon in his mouth, or indeed a golden putter".
Sinn Fein's Conor Murphy described Rory McIlroy's victory as "a great tribute to him as a very grounded young man".
Leslie Cree of the UUP described it as "a magnificent achievement".
The SDLP's Karen McKevitt called on the Speaker to hold a reception in his honour.
Chris Lyttle of the Alliance party joined in the congratulations. He recalled that he, too, had been a juvenile member of Holywood Golf Club and had taken lessons with Rory McIlroy's trainer, but to rather less success.
