The Minister of Education Caitríona Ruane said that she is still committed to the Middletown Centre for Autism.

During a statement on the the latest meeting of the North South Ministerial Council (NSMC) education meeting , the chair of the Education Committee Mervyn Storey asked the minister whether the department was undertaking a review of the Middletown centre.

The minster said that she was working with the Irish Department of Education and Science to progress the development of the centre.

She added that around £4.5m had been spent on the project so far, and that the Irish government would contribute half of the costs to the centre.
