as peers debate the Prisons (Interference with Wireless Telegraphy) Bill during committee stage at 3.15pm on 26 November 2012.
The bill seeks to give powers to the secretary of state to authorise prison governors to prevent the use of wireless communication devices, including mobile phones, within prisons.
This is a private members' bill, selected by ballot, that has passed through all stages of the Commons.
The bill was introduced by Conservative MP Sir Paul Beresford in the Commons and is being introduced in the Lords by Lord Laming.
If the bill becomes law it will apply in England, Wales and Scotland.
