On 30 June 2010, former Labour minister Don Touhig took his seat as a new member of the House of Lords.

Mr Touhig was elected as the Labour MP for Islwyn in south Wales in 1995.

In January 2010 he announced he would stand down at the general election saying it had been "a huge privilege" to represent the constituency.

Mr Touhig was parliamentary private secretary to Gordon Brown when he was chancellor, before joining the UK government whips' office in 1999.

He then went on to hold ministerial posts in the Welsh Office and the Ministry of Defence.
