Adjournment debate

Green MP Caroline Lucas led an adjournment debate on high carbon investment on 18 December 2012.

Ms Lucas was among a group of politicians and scientists who wrote to the Governor of the Bank of England, Sir Mervyn King, in January to outline risks posed to economic stability by sub-prime assets.

Major reserves of coal, oil and gas are held by companies listed in the City of London.

The global drive to reduce carbon emissions could mean billions of pounds of fossil fuel reserves will rapidly lose value, the letter warned.
