Motion on standards and privileges

MPs approved a motion to appoint Peter Jinman, Walter Rader and Sharon Darcy as lay members of the Committee on Standards, on 13 December 2012.

In March, MPs approved the creation of a Standards Committee, comprised of 10 MPs and two or three lay members, who would be approved by the whole House.

The committee is intended to uphold standards of conduct for MPs and strengthen public confidence in them.

Lay members can take part in committee proceedings and question witnesses but may not vote on matters such as sanctions for MPs.
