Adjournment debate

Labour MP Jim Dowd led an adjournment debate on unsustainable provider regimes in the NHS on 28 November 2012.

South London Healthcare NHS Trust was put into administration in July after being declared bankrupt.

The special administrator - Department of Health official Matthew Kershaw - has said the trust should be dissolved altogether.

If agreed, the move would lead to the closure of the A&E department of Lewisham Hospital, which serves Mr Dowd's constituency.

Maternity and non-emergency surgery would be reorganised across seven hospitals and private providers would get the opportunity to bid to run those services.
