Debate on charitable registration

MPs in Westminster Hall held a debate on charitable registration and public benefit on 13 November 2012.

The debate was led by the Conservative MP for Congleton, Fiona Bruce, who is one of several MPs who are concerned about the threat to strip charitable status from the Brethren - a Christian sect dating back to the 1820s - which, officials argue, may not deliver public benefit in return for charitable status.
