The Labour MP for Houghton and Sunderland South, Bridget Phillipson, led a Westminster Hall debate on 5 September 2012 on the funding of fire and rescue services.
She focussed on cuts to the budget of the fire and rescue services in the north east of England.
Critics say that metropolitan areas, such as Tyne and Wear, and Teesside, have suffered disproportionately from budget cuts.
In July, a senior fire officer from Yorkshire
that lives could be lost if planned cuts to ahead.
The government insists that fire services across the country are getting a good deal from Whitehall.
