Adjournment debate

Conservative MP for Loughborough Nicky Morgan led an adjournment debate on the electrification of the Midland Mainline on 16 April 2012.

Mrs Morgan believes that upgrading the route is an "imperative for economic growth" and would deliver £450m in wider economic benefits.

Unlike the East and West Coast Mainlines, the Midland Mainline is not completely electrified and diesel trains have to be used over much of the track.
