Labour MP Thomas Docherty led a Westminster Hall debate on 29 February 2012 on the role of HMRC in Scottish football.

The debate followed the recent events at Rangers FC, which has gone into administration.

The club entered administration after HM Revenue and Customs pursued legal action at the Court of Session in Edinburgh over alleged unpaid VAT and PAYE totalling about £9m.

Rangers are also awaiting the outcome of a tax tribunal over a disputed bill, plus penalties, totalling £49m.
