Debate on Sudan

Labour MP Willie Bain led a Westminster Hall debate on Sudan and South Sudan on 7 December 2011.

South Sudan became formally independent from its northern neighbour following a referendum earlier in the year.

The referendum brought to an end a 21-year long civil war that claimed the lives of an estimated two million people.

Despite the relative stability since independence, violence has flared in the disputed border region of Abyei.

The debate will be led by the Labour MP for Glasgow North East, Willie Bain.
