Adjournment debate

Stephen Hepburn, Labour MP for Jarrow, led a debate in the Commons on the 75th anniversary of the Jarrow crusade on 31 October 2011.

The Jarrow crusade took place in October 1936, when a group of 200 men from the town, which is in north-east England, marched 300 miles to London.

They wanted Parliament to understand the extreme poverty they were living in and protest against the 70% unemployment rate.
