Lottery funding debate

Labour MP Barbara Keeley led a debate on the distribution of lottery funds on 25 October 2011.

The Worsley and Eccles South MP stated with disappointment that her constituency ranked 624 out of 650 for grants awarded to community art and sports groups.

Little Holton ward within the constituency is one of the most deprived wards in Salford with high level of unemployment, child poverty and people with limiting long term illness, she told MPs.

Ms Keeley argued that the ward needs support to address these issues as she called for a fairer distribution of lottery funds.

Responding to the debate, Culture, Olympics, Media and Sports Minister Hugh Robertson agreed to take up the issues with The Big Lottery Fund, the group responsible for distributing the money raised by the National Lottery for good causes.
