Public Administration Committee

Watch live coverage of the committee taking evidence on the work of the Cabinet Office on 28 October 2010 from 9.30am.

The committee will hear from the current Cabinet Secretary Sir Gus O'Donnell about the work of the department, which supports the Prime Minister and Cabinet.

The department's remit is to co-ordinate the delivery of policy across different Whitehall departments and ensures the efficient operation of the civil service.

The Cabinet Secretary is effectively the head of the UK Civil Service.

Sir Gus O'Donnell has been in position since 2005, although it is reported that he will step down before the end of the current parliamentary session.

The Cabinet Office played a key role in negotiations to form a coalition government.
