On 25 February 2010, Tory MP Mark Francois led a debate on the closure of E.ON call centre in Rayleigh.

In January 2010, the energy company confirmed that the centre would close in June with a loss of 600 jobs.

The site in London Road will shut completely and 200 other jobs in IT support and energy services will also be lost.

The company says the closure is necessary to "streamline" its customer services operations" and create "centres of excellence" elsewhere in the UK.

E.ON employees 16,000 people in the UK.
