Scottish Affairs Committee

Archie Kane, the Group Executive Director of the Lloyds Banking Group, has told the Scottish Affairs Committee on 9 December 2009 that further job losses in Scotland are inevitable.

Scotland was particularly badly hit by the economic crisis, with the Royal Bank Scotland (RBS) and the Lloyds Banking Group - which took over HBOS - having been partially taken over by the government.

Clydesdale Bank remains the only Scottish consumer bank totally in private hands.

The Lloyds Banking Group paid £12bn for Edinburgh-based HBOS in the autumn of 2008, and Mr Kane told the committee that the integration of the two companies meant a three period of restructuring and job cuts.
