Prime Minister Gordon Brown has taken questions in the Commons, telling MPs that the death of five British soldiers in a single day in Afghanistan was "a terrible and tragic loss".
Tory leader David Cameron joined the prime minister in expressing condolences and asked what investigations were being carried out into the "disturbing incident" blamed on a rogue Afghan policeman.
For the Lib Dems, Nick Clegg said the Nato mission in Afghanistan was "in trouble", and pressed Mr Brown over what assurances he had received about "cleaning up" the government in Kabul.
