Formal sitting (plenary)

The European Parliament holds a formal sitting when dignitaries, such as heads of state, address the Parliament as a whole.

As a plenary session, it is an occasion when all MEPs may attend.

In 1992, the Parliament received Queen Elizabeth II in formal sitting.
