Industry questions

Industry Commissioner Antonio Tajani has told MEPs he wants the EU to be at the forefront of the "third industrial revolution".

Taking questions from the European Parliament on industry matters on 20 November 2012, he said that the green economy and new technologies could help boost the "re-industrialisation" of Europe.

He said that preventing the relocation of European businesses to non-European countries was one of his top priorities.

Commissioner Tajani recently published a range of proposals to try to ensure that at least 20% of Europe's economy is based on industry by 2020, up from its current level of 15.6%.

Questions were also put to the Employment Commissioner, Laszlo Andor.

He warned that unemployment levels were signs that tackling the social issues behind the economic crisis were important, during a time of "global competition".
