The role of political groups in the European Parliament

MEPs in the European Parliament sit in trans-national political groups, rather than solely as representatives of a particular country.

Groups cover a whole range of political colours, from federal liberalism to Euroscepticism.

However, critics say that the groups are becoming irrelevant, with deals being done between the groups behind closed doors.

The Record Europe's Shirin Wheeler investigates the powers of the groups.
