The Record Review: 23 March 2012

Marking Northern Ireland's tumultuous history

The history of Northern Ireland is long, complex and sometimes bloody, but there are now a series of events planned to mark a decade of centenaries.

The period from 1912 to 1922 saw some remarkable - and controversial - events.

To look back at how best to mark the momentous period, The Record Review's Alicia McCarthy spoke to the chair of the Commons Northern Ireland Select Committee, Laurence Robertson, and the Crossbench peers and professor of politics Lord Bew.

Spinning the budget

Chancellor George Osborne's third budget contained few surprises - with a number of leaks in the days leading up to his statement in the Commons.

But in the modern world, just how can you spin a budget?

Branding expert Simon Shulman told The Record Review it is all about managing expectation and building anticipation.
