Final day of US election campaign
Updated 01 November 2004, 08.27

George Bush and John Kerry are spending the last day of the US presidential election campaign visiting states that could help decide the winner.

Most of the main polls of US voters have the pair very close in the race to be president for the next four years.

Mr Kerry belongs to the Democratic Party, which is a bit like our Labour Party, and Mr Bush is a Republican, a bit like being a Conservative.

They have spent more than $1bn trying to convince people to vote for them.

Election rules in the US say the two contenders are allowed to campaign until midnight local time on Monday, then it's up to voters to decide.

The election will be held on Tuesday 2 November and the winner should be announced very early on Wednesday morning in the UK.

But the race is so close that some people are worried legal challenges to the result might delay the announcement.
