  Japan hit by another earthquake
Updated 27 October 2004, 13.29
A toddler has been rescued from an earthquake in Japan
Another powerful earthquake has caused big problems in Japan, days after the first quake in the Niigata area.

The quakes and the aftershocks that followed have claimed 32 lives so far and more than 100,000 are living in temporary shelters.

On Wednesday rescue workers pulled a two-year-old from a car buried by rubble from the first earthquake, in an rescue shown live on television.

But they were not able to save the life of his mum or three-year-old sister.

Niigata, Japan
The latest tremor was in the same area as the first, and was felt in the capital Tokyo 260km (160 miles) away.

The first earthquake measured 6.8 on the Richter scale and was the most serious to hit the country since 1994.

The weather in Japan is also very bad at the moment, with lots of rain and very cold temperatures making things even worse.
