UK troops begin to move in Iraq
Updated 27 October 2004, 11.16
The Black Watch are moving in Iraq
British troops in Iraq have begun moving north to take over some operations from US soldiers.

An 850-strong battle group led by the 1st Battalion The Black Watch is moving to a more dangerous part of Iraq.

The US wants to send soldiers to a city in Iraq called Falluja where fighting is very bad. The US military asked for some UK soldiers to fill in for them.

The UK agreed to move the troops to help out, and the prime minister promised they'll be home for Christmas.

But there is a chance other British troops will have to take over the role from the Black Watch if the US soldiers are still fighting in Falluja.

Falluja, Iraq
There are lots of Iraqis there who are fighting against the US-led coalition.

Many of them support a man called Abu Musab al-Zarqawi who doesn't want foreigners in Iraq.

His followers have taken and killed a number of hostages in Iraq and the US wants to stop him fighting against them.
