Updated 30 May 2004, 12.37
Commandos helped free hostages in Saudi
Dozens of hostages have been freed in Saudi Arabia after soldiers forced their way into where they were held.

Around 40 commandos jumped from helicopters to get into the residential area where the hostages where.

The hostages were taken by a group of gunmen on Saturday, after they killed at least 10 people including a British man and an American.

Saudi authorities said most of the hostages were free, although there were reports some of them were killed.

A group linked to al-Qaeda may have been behind the attack after a message was left on a website.

Some of the hostages have been taken to hospital while others are being looked after where they were rescued from.
