  UK troops 'shot harmless Iraqis'
Updated 11 May 2004, 09.05
It's been a difficult few weeks for British soldiers
British soldiers in Iraq have killed 37 Iraqi people they didn't need to, according to Amnesty International.

According to Amnesty one of those allegedly killed was an eight-year-old girl playing on the street.

The army has investigated some of the deaths, but human rights group Amnesty don't think that's good enough and want them looked at again.

They also want the alleged killings to be investigated by people not involved with the miltary.

Amnesty wrote the report after visiting southern Iraq where there are lots of British soldiers.

Iraq
People they spoke to there described what happened in the shootings differently to how the army did.

Amnesty wants a new investigation to clear up those differences.

It also looks at the deaths of some members of Saddam Hussein's old regime, who were killed by groups of Iraqis with guns who weren't police or soldiers.
