US begins pulling out of Falluja
Updated 30 April 2004, 10.08
US forces are leaving the city of Falluja
US soldiers have begun to leave the Iraqi city of Falluja after a month of intense fighting there.

The troops are leaving the city to be replaced by Iraqi soldiers, although some US forces will still be based just outside Falluja.

It's hoped that the people in Falluja will be less likely to want to fight with soldiers who aren't Americans.

Elsewhere, several US soldiers are in trouble for allegedly treating Iraqi prisoners very badly.

Falluja, Iraq
US TV pictures show the prisoners being humilated by the soldiers, in the same prison where people were tortured when Saddam Hussein was in charge.

Doctors say more than 600 people have been killed in Falluja since fighting started there on 5 April.

Now 1,000 Iraqi troops will take control of the city, under the control of one of Saddam Hussein's old army generals, General Salah.
