Star Wars fans get ready for DVD
Updated 18 September 2004, 15.04

The original Star Wars trilogy DVD set will hit the shops on Monday.

The special editions have been digitally restored and re-mastered to improve the sound and picture quality.

The four-disc box set is also crammed with extra features, including behind-the-scenes coverage, interviews with stars of the film and games.

Adam from Newsround Showbiz asked Anthony Daniels, the man who plays the droid C-3PO, why it's taken so long for the films to be released on DVD.

"A huge number of interviews had to be gathered together and old archive information added, so it's taken years and years of work. People have really been waiting for it," said the droid actor.

He didn't give away many hints about Episode III, the third of the three films set before the original trilogy and not due out in cinemas until 2005.

But he did give a small clue.

"If you think of the first scene inside the spaceship, which you will see on this DVD, when you first see C-3PO and R2-D2.

"Think of that, there's a white corridor... Wait till you see Episode III - you might just recognise the same set!" said Anthony Daniels.

Secret footage

Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back and Episode VI: Return of the Jedi will be available in the collection.

It includes a bonus disc filled with special features, including a feature-length documentary and never-before-seen footage from the making of all three films.

To watch the full-length feature catch Newsround Showbiz on the CBBC channel on Saturday 18 September at 3.50pm.
