  Croc-hunter Irwin investigated
Updated 03 January 2004, 10.38
Irwin defends his actions with his wife, Terri
Crocodile hunter Steve Irwin is facing an Australian state government investigation after holding his baby son near the jaws of a crocodile.

The stunt was part of a show at his Queensland Zoo, which saw him feeding a four metre (13 foot) croc while holding his month-old son Bob.

Police visited Irwin after complaints, but said he had not committed a crime.

Irwin said he was trying to teach his children to be "croc-savvy", so they would understand the animals better.

Neglect

But Joe Tucci, from the Childhood Foundation, called the stunt "neglect", and said: "I don't think we should use children as props."

Irwin admitted: "If I could have my time again I would probably do things differently."
