George Bush has promised that Saddam Hussein will get a fair trial.

The US President said the Iraqis would be involved at every step and that it would be the Iraqis who finally decided if he should face the death penalty.

"The Iraqis need to be involved," President Bush said. "There needs to be a public trial and I'm confident it will be done in a fair way."

So far Saddam has been refusing to talk to his interrogators since he was captured in Tikrit on Saturday.

Mr Bush added that problems in Iraq were not over, and that the US-led forces would carry on working hard for peace.

But two car bombs went off in Baghdad on Monday, killing at least eight people.

However many people hope that now Saddam's been caught, it could be an important step towards finally ending the violence there.

There has already been some progress. US military bosses said two more key figures have been arrested as a result of things they found out during Saddam's capture.

opening quoteI'm very glad that they've caught him. No one should suffer like the Iraqis did. I don't think he should get the death penalty. He should suffer.closing quote
