  Helicopter attack kills 15 troops
Updated 02 November 2003, 17.05
The helicopter was almost destroyed
Fifteen US soldiers have been killed and 21 wounded after their helicopter was attacked in Iraq.

The helicopter came down in the town of Falluja, which is about 30 miles from the capital city of Baghdad.

Iraqi witnesses said the helicopter had been shot down by a missile, but the US military could not confirm this.

The helicopter was taking troops who had been given leave from their duties to Baghdad airport. It was almost destroyed in the incident.

Former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein has many supporters in Falluja and there have been lots of attacks on US-led troops in the town.

A total of 138 American troops have now been killed in attacks since US President George W Bush announced the end of the war on 1 May.
