Man breaks his own rollercoaster record
Updated 27 August 2003, 13.07

A university lecturer has broken his own record for riding rollercoasters in a theme park in Germany.

Richard Rodriguez set the record at 145 hours - about 6 days - on 16 July, but even that wasn't enough for the 41-year-old American.

The world's fastest coaster is in Fujiyama, Japan
Really fast coasters are called Hypercoasters
First rollercoaster built in 1884
Coasters invented by LaMarcus A. Thompson.
He set out to beat his own time on Wednesday 20 July, and did it the following Wednesday.

He's planning to stay on the rollercoaster until he reaches 195 hours - just over eight days - later this week.

He followed official Guinness Book of Records rules for the rollercoaster title.

That means staying on the ride for eight hours at a time, with only 15 minute breaks.

He used two rides, and padding was put on the seats so he could sleep.

But that leaves two obvious questions.

The answers are, yes, there was a toilet on board, and no, we don't know how he used it.
