New Potter ads target adult readers
Updated 25 September 2003, 19.17
The ads are trying to get older readers
Now that almost everybody in the world owns the Potter books how are the publishers going to get anyone else to buy the books.

The people who sell the books in the US, Scholastic, reckon their latest advert campaign will do the trick - but it's only for adults.

The ads are in magazines for older people in the US, and use words and phrases from the books to try and get them interested in Harry Potter.

Will the ads convince bikers like these to read Potter?

One's got a big tattooed biker standing in it, alongside the words "Flying cars. Fire Whiskey. Death Eaters," followed by "We all have our reasons. What's yours?"

Skaters and couch potatoes are also included in the ads, that are trying to convince people that there are things in the books that will interest them.

A spokeswoman for Scholastic said they wanted to "reach out to readers who would not normally pick up a copy of Harry Potter".
