Hurricane Isabel kills 12 in the US
Updated 19 September 2003, 16.28

Hurricane Isabel has claimed 12 lives and left around four million people without power on the east coast of the US.

The winds of the hurricane have slowed down a great deal from their quickest at 90mph, but things are still pretty bad.

A storm similar in size to Italy is still raging over the US, and the water it is dropping on the country is creating lots of flooding.

America's capital city, Washington DC, is in the path of the hurricane and lots of schools and government buildings are closed there.

So far the damage caused by the storm is estimated to cost $500m (£307m) to repair.

Weather experts expect the storm to keep on moving north before it finally stops somewhere over Canada on Sunday.
