  Ban child trafficking, says charity
Updated 30 July 2003, 09.38
West African children
Every year thousands of children are taken from their homes and smuggled into the UK to be used as cheap labour.

A report by the children's charity Unicef says that the problem is getting worse and it wants the government to make it illegal.

Unicef says children from poorer countries in West Africa, Eastern Europe, and Asia are being kidnapped and brought to the UK to work.

This is called child trafficking.

People who make a living out of selling children often promise their families that they'll get a better education and life in countries like the UK.

But the sad fact is that many of them end up being abused and treated terribly.
