Teenagers rescued from sea on school trip
Updated 17 July 2003, 15.15
The students were rescued by an RAF helicopter
A group of teenagers on a school trip have been dramatically rescued from the North Sea.

The students were on a beach and some of the party went into the sea for a swim, but they got into trouble.

Their friends tried to form a human chain to help them get back to the shore, but it didn't work.

Airlifted

The pupils were on a trip at Druridge Bay, near Amble, Northumberland.

There were 16 teenagers in the party and eight of them were airlifted to hospital by helicopter.

It's thought one of the pupils is quite seriously injured.

They've been taken to a hospital nearby.
