Homes destroyed in Arizona forest fires
Updated 24 June 2003, 16.16
The Arizona fires are still spreading
Firefighters in the US are battling against wildfires which have destroyed homes and forests.

The blaze, which started nearly a week ago, has wrecked 250 houses in the Arizona area.

At least 1,000 people have been forced to leave their homes, but luckily no one has been badly injured so far.

Hot and dry

And it's destroyed more than 19,500 acres of forest.

250 homes have been destroyed
The firefighters had only managed to get 15 per cent of the massive blaze under control on Tuesday.

They now fear it could be weeks before the fire is totally under control.

Unfortunately the weather is hot and dry which is making it even harder to fight the blaze.
