Iraqi children head back to school
Updated 03 May 2003, 12.56
Some kids have gone back to school in Iraq
Children in Iraq are going back to school for the first time since the end of military action in their country.

And things are very different for the kids since Saddam Hussein's regime was removed from power.

Then at the beginning of each day the pupils had to chant "long live Saddam", now they are saying "long live Iraq".

Schools have also taken down or covered up the many pictures of Saddam Hussein in their buildings, although his face is still in all the textbooks.

And in a lot of lessons the teachers were forced to use sayings of Saddam Hussein to help the children learn, something that won't be happening any more.

But not all the children are heading for the classrooms, because some parents are worried that it isn't safe enough for their kids to travel around in Iraq.
