  Iraqis killed in anti-US protest

A US soldier talks to angry residents in Falluja
At least 13 Iraqi people have killed during an anti-American demonstration, it's been reported.

There are different reports about what happened in the town of Falluja, which is near Baghdad.

A US spokesman said members of the crowd starting shooting at them first, and they only opened fire to defend themselves.

Took over a school

But some Iraqi witnesses said the protesters weren't armed, and that the soldiers starting shooting at them.

American forces entered Falluja for the first time since the war with Iraq started on Sunday.

One Iraqi witness said the troops took over a school when they arrived, and the demonstrators just wanted them to leave the school so they could use it.

But US forces insisted they had been fired on by the protesters.

One of Saddam Hussein's top advisers, Amer Mohammed Rasheed, is said to have handed himself in to US forces.

He is said to have been involved in making secret weapons before he became Iraq's oil minister in 1995.
