  Ali has successful burns surgery
Updated 02 May 2003, 21.02
Ali Ismail Abbas
Ali Ismail Abbas, the Iraqi boy who lost both his arms in the war, has had another successful operation.

The 12-year-old was also badly burnt in the bomb attack, so he's had surgery called a skin graft to help him recover.

This involves taking a piece of skin from one part of his body and moving it to another part, so it covers up his burns.

'Smiling and talking'

Doctors at the hospital in Kuwait, where Ali is being treated, said the surgery went very well.

He's going to have another skin graft in two weeks' time.

Ali was "smiling and talking" later on Sunday, after the operation, one doctor said.

Ali's family were all killed in a bomb raid in Baghdad. Both his arms had to be amputated, but he's been promised state-of-the-art false limbs.

Ali may also have a teacher come to visit him in the al-Babtain burns centre, because he will have to stay in hospital for a long time to recover from all his operations.
