Updated 27 April 2003, 13.29
School
China has closed all schools, cinemas, internet cafes and karaoke bars in Beijing to try and stop Sars spreading.

The pneumonia-like virus has killed nine more people in China and 12 more in Hong Kong.

But Beijing, China's capital, still has the biggest number of people infected.

Fact File
Sars deaths so far
Mainland China: 131
Hong Kong: 133
Singapore: 21
Canada: 20
Vietnam: 5
Thailand: 2
Malaysia: 2
Philippines: 2

The city's third-largest university has been sealed off too, with no-one allowed to enter or leave.

The boss of the United Nations' World Health Organisation (WHO) says the virus can still be kept under control if countries protect themselves now.

WHO reckons the steps Asia is taking to stop Sars spreading are not over the top, but sensible.

So far, Sars has killed more than 300 people, mostly in Asian countries.
