China quarantines 4,000 people to stop Sars
Updated 25 April 2003, 16.40
People at the tube station in Beijing, China
Four thousand people in China with the Sars virus have been told not to leave their homes.

The government's trying to stop the deadly disease from spreading.

China's been more affected by Sars than any other country in the world - it's thought that the outbreak started there.

Schools in the capital, Beijing, have been closed to stop it spreading among the 1.7 million kids who live there.

A total of 115 people have died in the country, but the Chinese government has been told off for not doing more sooner.

A big meeting is being held in Malaysia on Friday for health officials from the worst affected countries, including Canada, to work out how to stop the spread of Sars.

It's now killed more than 260 people worldwide.

They're thinking of testing people at country borders to make sure they don't have the disease. And they want to make sure they share information with each other.
