Blair to visit and thank soldiers in Iraq
Updated 28 May 2003, 16.28
British soldiers talk to Iraqi schoolgirls in Basra
Prime Minister Tony Blair is to visit soldiers in Iraq, making him the first coalition leader to go to the country since the end of the war.

He wants to specially thank all the British troops involved in the fighting which led to the end of Saddam Hussein's rule.

Many British troops have arrived back home already. On Wednesday, HMS Ocean came home with over 300 of its crew who have been away since January.

Rebuilding

Blair will stop off in Kuwait before flying on to Iraq, sometime in the next two days.

He will make it clear that one of the most important things to do in the country is make sure people have clean water, food and shelter.

And he wants to make sure the country is re-built properly after the bombing.

Where are the weapons?

But many are wondering why the coalition forces have not found weapons of mass destruction yet.

The US and UK went to war because they believed Iraq had the illegal weapons.

Blair told reporters he had "absolutely no doubt at all about the existence of weapons of mass destruction" in Iraq.

But earlier, US Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld said he thinks Saddam Hussein could have destroyed them before war started in March.
