UK says Iraq war now even more likely
Updated 28 January 2003, 15.47
Foreign secretary Jack Straw
The Foreign Secretary, Jack Straw, has said Iraq's "time is up" and that war with the country is becoming more and more likely.

But there is still a chance it can be avoided and the UK government is still trying to find a way to end the crisis peacefully.

Straw said a report from the United Nation's chief weapons inspector, Dr Hans Blix, showed Iraq had broken a very important order from the UN, called resolution 1441.

And they hadn't answered all the questions they needed to.

The inspectors have been searching Iraq to try and find out if they have been getting rid of all their weapons or not.

The report suggested the country hadn't done enough though.

And now the US and the UK look like they are trying to convince leaders in the rest of the world that military action might be necessary.

Address

Later on Tuesday in America, George Bush will give one of his most important speeches of the year, called the State of the Union address.

In it President Bush is expected to further explain to the American people why he thinks there should be a war.
