- Fascinating Fact: Angola is the world's fourth largest diamond producer. Mining for diamonds is called diamond prospecting, which is known in Angola as "garimpo". Soil is dug up from riverbeds and then washed and sifted. Children are used to try and spot any diamonds in the bucketful of stones because they've got sharper eyesight.
